Practice/Theory

In teaching and studio practice Hobson embraces pragmatism in the American philosophical sense and the Black southern mother-wit sense.

Images here depict a range of objects that seek everything intercession introspection They are integrated with praxis maps which document the conceptual development of Hobson’s projects, and scenes from talks given by the artist.

Notes on Materiality:

Hobson’s practice considers painting in a broad, expanded field. It emphasizes material alignment with themes of all artworks. In addition to drawings, oil and acrylic paintings on traditional supports, Hobson brings in materials including porcelain, wood, fabric, metal, glass, plant matter, found objects and hog gut sausage casing.
